FALLETTA RETURNS: When Symphony Silicon Valley opens its season this weekend, it will be with a very special guest. JoAnn Falletta, making a rare Bay Area appearance, conducts the orchestra in performances Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. In recent years, there’s been a long overdue push to program music by women composers, but Falletta was way ahead of the curve. As music director of the Women’s Philharmonic from 1986 to 1997, she regularly led programs consisting entirely of works by women; the San Francisco-based orchestra’s concerts featured some of the only Bay Area performances of music by Chen Yi, Lili Boulanger, Clara Schumann, Tania Leon, Florence Price and Ethel Smyth.

Lynn Bynes’ lawyer Tamar Arminak released a statement Friday to E! News, saying, “I am heartbroken today for my husband of 47 years. Rick has been the best father and husband a family can ask for. He has never abused Amanda or our other children physically or sexually. These accusations are absolutely horrible and could not be further from the truth! These allegations stem from Amanda’s mental state at the moment. They have no basis in reality. It saddens me beyond belief that my husband’s character could be slandered in such a way.”.
It also includes a Steinway baby-grand piano inscribed to her by Theodore Steinway, a piano that her children used to play as well as drape with blankets to make forts, Holbrook was reluctant to put a value on the collection, but said that bidding might start at about $6,000 for one of the autograph books, But it also provoked interesting interactions with the public, “I remember being approached by this woman who held on to me and told me she had to sleep ballet slipper shoe polymer clay earrings in curls every night,” said Charles Jr., 63, who works in real estate in San Francisco, “We had this person who was our mother, who we knew and loved, and these people who knew her before we did.”..
Worked for me. On dreading, then grieving, a mother’s death: Take some comfort in the natural order of life. I outlived my first grandchild and it still makes my stomach hurt. Your mom wanted you to outlive her. Sadness means you loved and valued her. Keep her memories alive by talking about her with family. You still have her.
